S2C1: 2112 and Dream Sequences

Image
Following on from my initial ideas i began looking at the song and creating ideas for the piece. i looked a famous dream sequence done by salvador dali, to gauge inspiration for how to create my animatic. Salvador Dali Dalí was a skilled  draftsman , best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. His  painterly  skills are often attributed to the influence of  Renaissance  masters. His best-known work,  The Persistence of Memory , was completed in August 1931. Dalí's expansive artistic repertoire included film, sculpture, and photography, in collaboration with a range of artists in a variety of media. Dalí attributed his "love of everything that is gilded and excessive, my passion for luxury and my love of oriental clothes" to an "Arab lineage", claiming that his ancestors were descended from the  Moors . Dalí was highly imaginative, and also enjoyed indulging in unusual and grandiose behavior. His eccentric...

S2 Comp 1: Artist Research

Image
As odd as it is, i want my animation to be very surreal, one animation while ill related to my ideas, had a lovely animation style, while albeit weird was the video linked below I like the look as the lines, colours and imagery blend into one another and seamlessly flow into one another. Another piece of animation i looked at for inspiration was Marvel's Doctor Strange, where Strange first meets the ancient one. the sort of abstract journey that strange embarks really intrigues me and also fits with the idea of the previous researched animation piece Initial idea and research While on the bus home from the supermarket, i was listening to one of my favourite songs by the band Rush. The song is 20 minute masterpiece telling the story of a man, living under an oppressed regime, where all art and music is banned and filtered by the high priests. The man the story revolves around, finds a guitar in a cave near the river where he works.  He figures out how to tu...

Semester 2 Component 1: Pre Production

Image
For the next part of our project that for many would begin in semester two, we would be making our own animation sequence, totalling about 90 seconds in length. It is something that i would love to do, and i get the opportunity to start on for the next couple of weeks. Unlike the previous 10 weeks it will be an independent subject, which will make a nice break from group projects, as insightful as the previous semester was. There is next to no limitation to the animation which gives me free reign on the idea. MODERNISM IN ART AND ANIMATION Modernism' and 'Post- Modernism' are both terms referring each to a different philosophical movement that originated just after the 1st World War. In the wake of death and destruction that the previous 4 years had wrought upon the world. The influence of modernism was more of a Ergonomics over Aesthetics in such areas such as carpentry, architecture and other such creative professions. Modernism gave birth to such names as Picasso,...

Week 10 - Final touch ups

Image
Above is the play on tour with our animations that were created by our group, as you can see my swimming animation made the final cut, and i feel looked good on the large screens behind the plays.  I was lucky in that most of my aspect ratios were correct so did not need any last minute adjusting unlike other members of my group, so i spent this session and week helping others fix their aspect ratios. During this project we did has a problem with one of our classmates who went AWOL after a few weeks and we failed to get in touch with him at all for the rest of the semester, so it was up to my classmate and i to do his scenes for him. My classmate charlie really pulled through and worked insanely hard to get his scenes done, as well as taking on the leadership role. While he did an amazing job, he could have delegated me some of the scenes our classmate had left us as during this week i was pretty much out of things to do and wanted scenes to help pad out my portfolio ...

Week 9- The walrus office

Image
This week i was tasked with something new, i had to redesign the walrus office, as the one that was made by another group was not wanted by the client, and the other group did not have enough time to redesign their scene, so i was passed the mantle, the walrus scene looks pretty simple as all i have to do is. The client didnt like the previous version of the office as they felt it was too colourful, and they wanted a more vintage approach, to match this request, i began my research into the office by looking at old rooms and aesthetics to get an idea of what they wanted from me. below is what i found during my research I then began looking at Libraries as i really liked the look of lots of books on built in shelves, as i felt it helped with the old school aesthetic i was try to achieve as well as adding a bit of colours to the piece as books will be of various colours and shapes and sizes. Now that i feel that i have compiled enough research to get going i opened up Photoshop...

Week 8

Image
Above is the frame that my animation will have to fit into, However when i submit i will have to remember to remove the frame as it is only template and would interfere with the compiling of everyone animations. I decided that i needed to finish the entire length of the background off before completing the 2nd underwater animation, following my early research i tried to give a sense of depth and also a sense of realistic light fall off in my work, However at the bottom is a lot brighter, this is  because i wanted there to be a separation between the murky and dirty top and the clean bottom. Upon finishing the ocean i had to create the objects within in, including the plug and the rubbish, to do this i created a spreassheet and drew lots of various pieces of garbage, and then removed the background and placed them in the image, and gave them a floating animation in AE. Once that and the plug was added to the scene, i created a basic animation of haroun swimming dow...

Week 6 + 7

Image
This week was dedicated to creating another swimming animation and how to composite it into an animation, to do this i took a closer look at Adobe After Effects. To begin with i had a look a several tutorials to help me look through the interface of the program. I really liked the idea of using the puppet tool in After effects, which would help me create a swimming animation in a very short period of time. I also like the idea of using the 3D work space so it gives a sense of depth to a piece, which was really nice. i plan on using that to make things move more lifelike.  After doing research into the program i began to start trying to animate a swimming scene on AE, i began by creating a figure in the vein of haroun in Photoshop before importing into AE. i then used the puppet tool  following the tutorial linked above.  my first test was very clunky and while i was happy with the swimming animation rig i need to make it so haroun doesn't blink and suddenly ch...
